Trade group requests review of China tire tariffs
WASHINGTON (Aug. 27, 2010)—A trade group representing U.S. firms doing business with China is calling on the Obama administration to provide an objective “fact-based” review of the effects of the high tariffs on Chinese consumer tires because it believes the tariffs haven’t helped create U.S. jobs and instead have resulted in higher prices for consumers.
Maxxis building 5th plant in China
YUANLIN, Taiwan (Aug. 27, 2010)—Cheng Shin Rubber/Maxxis International has picked a site in a Chongqing, China, industrial park as the site for its newest tire plant, a $300 million project that should be producing radial car tires by mid-2011.

Volvo recalling S80 vehicles over tire pressure error in owner manuals

(Aug. 4, 2010)—Volvo Cars of North America L.L.C. is recalling 3,635 vehicles, Model S80, because the tire and loading information label and a page in the owner’s manual contain incorrect maximum permissible inflation pressure and the vehicles’ tire pressure monitoring system software has an incorrect trigger level.

Court approves Titan’s purchase of Denman machinery
QUINCY, Ill. (July 20, 2010)—Titan Tire Corp., a subsidiary of Titan International Inc., won approval July 15 from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District in Ohio to purchase bankrupt Denman Tire Corp.’s machinery, equipment and other inventory items for $3 million. The purchase did not include any land or buildings.

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (July 19, 2010)—A mining tire design development company and its chief executive officer have won a $26 million judgment against Dubai-based tire distributor Al Dobowi Tyres Co. L.L.C. and Chinese tire maker Shandong LingLong Rubber Co. Ltd., for alleged conspiracy to steal trade secrets.
Ohio agency accuses three of illegal tire hauling, dumping
COLUMBUS, Ohio (July 19, 2010)—After an investigation by the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio’s Environmental Crimes Task Force, three men were indicted by the Franklin County Grand Jury on charges of illegal scrap tire hauling and dumping.
